UNDRR

The UN General Assembly adopted the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction in December 1999 and established UNDRR, the secretariat to ensure its implementation. UNDRR, the UN office for disaster risk reduction.

Addressing natural disaster related risks through frameworks is one of the key elements of UNDRR.

According to the UNISDR (the previous version of UNDRR) disaster risk reduction is the concept and practice of reducing disaster risks through systematic efforts to analyse and manage the causal factors of disasters, including through reduced exposure to hazards, lessened vulnerability of people and property, wise management of land and the environment, and improved preparedness for adverse events.

In this committee delegates are expected to debate upon the main factors that UNDRR should focus on while maintaining the disaster risk reduction projects and additional improvements that will enhance the process of disaster management.
